Disappointments

We are all tripped up by

several small disappointments

on a daily basis.

The only difference is

how each one is handled.

It could be as easy as

a stubbed toe, causing temporary pain

and gradually returning to normal.

Others can sting the soul,

wreaking internal havoc,

casting long shadows for many years.

Disappointments cannot be avoided entirely.

Each day brings opportunities to shine

or a chance to be let down

by someone or something in life.

The path forward is always there.

A Light

Beyond the silent screams and

haunting dreams lies a light,

a light which is virtually invisible

to the eyes above the night.

Bright stars and magical auras

can only burrow so far

before being confronted by

the unraveling mind and

the ravings ravaging the page

in written form. Is it invisible?

Did it ever really exist?

This is yet to be determined…

Hearts and Minds

In the deep recesses of ignorance

lies a cowering spirit,

an inner self afraid of

a vast universe, an infinite array

of colors, styles and lives

bursting with joy and fulfillment.

Anyone with intellect is seen as

an elite, someone to be mocked

and ridiculed, even shunned for

daring to rise above the common man.

Yet the voices calling for

an end to the accumulation of knowledge

know exactly what they are doing.

These bastions of psychobabble

have siphoned every drop of sense

from a system meant to

show everyone the way toward

enlightenment and purpose,

without the shameful sidetracking

into bigotry, bias and backdoor deals.

It is open season on open minds.

Do not let the clouds of deceit

rain falsehoods upon us all.

Let sunshine define the decades to come.

Untitled

It’s not just a phase

or letters in a phrase.

It is a continuing reaction

to events occurring and evolving

into little battles, struggles not seen

by outside eyes. The world gets smaller

and darker with every passing day.

Flashbacks form at first light,

haunting the headspace it occupies

until angry outbursts and

tears flowing freely belie

the shell shocked soul below.

Initial traumas, terrible twists of fate

changing the state of being

into hypervigilant overdrive.

Any change sounds the alarm,

making the mind wary of

what is and what should be,

not what could be in the future.

It’s not just a phase

or letters in a phrase.

It is a lasting legacy,

a legitimate disorder destined to

remain well past the twilight.
